These are so yummy but we really should call them Pear Honey because that's what it tastes like! Granny makes the best pear preserves. They are super delicious over vanilla ice cream or pound cake. Mmm...so good!
Papa gave some more pears this past weekend and I made Pear Applesauce. I combined the rest of the apples we picked in Ellijay with the pears he gave us. They are so much easier to make than the preserves. Plus we eat the applesauce more than the preserves. It might be because the applesauce is just a tad more healthier with only about 1/2 cup sugar for the entire dutch oven! Here is the recipe for the preserves. This is slightly different than the ones Granny makes:
Ginger Cinnamon Pear Preserves
- 16 cups pears, peeled, cored and sliced thin
- 13 cups sugar
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- juice of 1 lime
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped crystallized ginger

I love the sound of this recipe. Do you know how many jars it makes?
